The King (王様,Ōsama), also known as Ruby in the manga by the Japanese audience, is the main antagonist in the Ousama Game series.

Appearance[]

The King has a green snakelike appearance and his face looks like someone wearing a mask.

Personality[]

The King is ruthless and merciless being that punishes anyone by death who refuses to obey his commands in his game. However, not much is known about the King, but according to Nobuaki as per some of the orders sent in King's Game: Visit, The King might actually be a pervert.

History[]

Natsuko child

Natsuko releasing the King.

The King is a virus that originated in the remote Yonaki Village after being released by Natsuko 30 years ago when she locked herself in a shed over her mother forbidding her and Kazunari from contacting each other again, as they were in love, but were cousins. According to Ria, 32 years ago, the villagers of Yonaki Village were killed by an unknown powerful force through hypnotism. A researcher began investigating this force, believing that they could harness it's power for good and, although the effects could be horrible if the experiment went out of control, continued researching anyway. Ria explains that this researcher, a woman named Natsuko Honda, eventually gave birth to a child: Chiemi Honda. In order to ensure her child's safety, Natsuko attempted to erase her experiment, but by then, the virus had already mutated into an independent virus and Natsuko was killed in the process of trying to destroy it. Ria explains that other people began working on the King's Game, deciding to use Chiemi's class as a test site. Piecing together the single-character syllables collected over the course of the game, Ria reveals a message with the syllables reading: "You need to sacrifice 31 people's lives to revive Natsuko Honda". Ria explains that Natsuko's dream had always been to complete the ultimate weapon and that, for some reason, the virus believed that Natsuko could be revived. The syllables, according to Ria, are its weak point, a bug in the system. She also realizes that the true purpose of the King's Game was actually to determine a King that would rule the world with the "ultimate weapon", therefore, "reviving Natsuko Honda" actually meant finding a new King.

**Spoilers**

That, however, obviously contradicts the events of King's Game: Origin. Everything in that story contradicts what Ria had learned in the previous manga; while there was a Natsuko Honda, she was never a scientist researching the King. Natsuko, on the other hand, was Kazunari Honda's cousin and former girlfriend, who became outraged when no one approved of their romance, due to being cousins. In her fit of despair and anger she broke a highly dangerous pot, containing poisons from her family, and that was enough to activate the virus and for the King to manifest. As for the researchers who forced Chiemi and her friends to play the King's Game, there were none to begin with, because, as previously stated, Natsuko was not a researcher for the King, therefore no one could continue said research after she died. But what is not contradiction to the first King's Game was the message, "You need to sacrifice 31 people's lives to revive Natsuko Honda" as that is the exact line Kazunari said after Natsuko died in his arms. So it is likely the King granted his wish as a means to taunt Kazunari, basically it was to mock him for his wish.

It is speculated that either Ria made up what she told Chiemi and Nobuaki to keep Chiemi from finding out the truth and then blaming herself for what actually happened, or the real researchers wrote it as a cover-up to prevent the public from becoming fearful of what lies ahead. Regardless after Chiemi died Nobuaki became the winner of the King's Game, setting the events leading to King's Game: Extreme. As for Kazunari, the winner of the very first game, it is speculated that after learning what happened to Chiemi in her game, he might have thought it was his fault for saying the phrase, "Sacrifice yourselves lives and bring Natsuko Honda back to life". So as atonement for the wish, he returned to the now abandoned Yonaki Village, and killed himself, before he did however he left a note saying how he will see Chiemi and maybe even his other daughter Natsuko, named after his late lover, and apologizing for what he had done to cause what became of Chiemi and her friends. And then his body would then be found by Nobuaki, alongside the suicide note.
